ARCHIVE Mandatory Rule 6.1 - all law - live webinar

21 September 2021
3 CPD Units Online
09:00 PM  12:15 PM

Hear from legal experts as they discuss some of the current issues faced by legal practitioners while earning three CPD units. This three-hour session includes an hour on compliance management, an hour of writing with impact, and an hour-long workshop on Changing Workplace Culture: Sexual Harassment, which makes up the ethics component.

  • Compliance management - This topic will help you identify high-risk compliance categories, examine why setting the right tone is important for managing compliance risks, and select strategies for file management - including storage and retrieval of client documents, undertakings, communication/managing client expectations.

  • Writing with Impact - This topic will provide you with some practical strategies and techniques to maximise your confidence and impact when dealing with challenging questions or situations.

  • Changing Workplace Culture: Sexual Harassment - This workshop identifies inappropriate conduct, the role of bystanders, workplace culture, and the reporting and management of complaints. Recorded scenes in the workplace using professional actors are featured to aid learning and understanding of this serious issue, challenging what each of us can do to reduce the harm to individuals, organisations, and the profession as a result of sexual harassment.

Practitioners should inform themselves of Rule 6.1 of the Legal Profession Uniform Continuing Professional Development (Solicitors) Rules 2015 which sets out the requirements for the four (4) mandatory CPD areas for NSW legal practitioners – (a) ethics and professional responsibility; (b) practice management and business skills; (c) professional skills; and (d) substantive law. It is the responsibility of each legal practitioner to self-assess as to whether a particular educational activity extends their knowledge and skills in areas that are relevant to their practice needs or professional development. If so, then the practitioner may claim one (1) "unit” for each hour of attendance, refreshment breaks not included. If you self-assess that this particular educational activity extends your knowledge and skills, this program may allow you to claim three (3) of the mandatory areas: (a) ethics and professional responsibility; (b) practice management and business skills; and (c) professional skills.
