Update on the new Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia - recorded webinar

 1 CPD Unit  Recorded webinar

Online

1 September 2021, marked a significant occasion in the history of Australia’s federal court system with the commencement of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.

The merger marks one of the most significant structural changes to the family law system since the establishment of the Family Court in the mid-1970s. It follows multiple inquiries by both Coalition and Labor governments, which have shown that in recent years Australia’s family courts have struggled with high caseloads and limited resources.

The focus of this session is on communicating precisely what the changes are and preparing regional practitioners for the reforms.

The session is moderated by Cassandra Banks, Principal of CB Legal in Coffs Harbour and the Junior Vice President of the Law Society of NSW. She is joined by:

  • The Honourable Deputy Chief Justice Robert McClelland, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and

  • Brett McGrath, Senior Judicial Registrar, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
