In this session, Greg Wrobel provides a framework for decision-making and the considerations that decision-makers (and their legal advisers) should take into account at each stage of the process to seek to minimise the prospects that their decision will be successfully challenged.  Greg focusses on administrative decision-making within the NSW State Government context, although the principles apply to each level of government. The session includes a discussion of the following issues:

• Some provisions in NSW legislation and codes of conduct which are relevant to the decision-making process;
• Some recent case example from NSW courts and courts in other jurisdictions which address specific aspects of decision-making; and
• Practical suggestions to approach the decision-making process.
